[2020-11-05 05:30-13:30 PST] VCEA IT General Scheduled Maintenance – Chilled Water Shutdown

WSU FacOps needs to shut down the chilled water that feeds the chillers for EEME, Sloan and other Pullman campus buildings. The duration of this outage will require taking part of our primary datacenter for the college (EME 106) offline.  Our goal is to reduce load enough to keep virtual resources for students & staff online throughout the chiller outage. The following research/compute nodes will need to be taken offline on November 05, from 05:30 (5:30 AM) to 13:30 (1:30 PM) Pacific Standard Time.

  • aeolus.wsu.edu
  • gauss.mme.wsu.edu
  • friedrich.mme.wsu.edu
  • gibbs.mme.wsu.edu

Maintenance Info
POC: VCEA Systems Team
What: Aeolus, Gauss, Friedrich, & Gibbs will be taken offline to accommodate the building cooling shutdown.
When:

  • Start: Thursday November 05, 2020 05:30 PST
  • End: Thursday November 05, 2020 13:30 PST
  • Duration of outage: 8 hours
  • Maintenance or service outages may not last the entire maintenance period. A notification will be sent once maintenance is complete.

Affected resources:  All college research/compute nodes, virtual machine hosting, and network storage.

Affected users: Aeolus, Gauss, Friedrich, & Gibbs
Notes: To provide adequate shutdown, turn on, and buffer, the datacenter offline time is buffering 1-hour in either direction of expected building chiller maintenance. Clusters using a scheduler will be able to schedule jobs, but they will be blocked/held until the end of the maintenance period.
Notification procedures: A notification will be sent as a response to this email when maintenance is complete or if there are issues/complications. A notification will be sent as a response to this email if this maintenance is rescheduled.
Follow-up actions required by users: Systems logging back in after the maintenance is complete.
If users encounter problems with services after the maintenance window is over, they should contact the VCEA Helpdesk online at support.vcea.wsu.edu, by email at support.vcea@wsu.edu, or by phone at (509)335-6773.
